How Much Sugar is Too Much?

We are most concerned about the "ADDED" sugars in our foods. We are not talking about our nutrient packed natural carbohydrates like fruits and vegetables!

Added sugars have additional names like:

Maltose

Sucrose

High fructose corn syrup

Molasses

Cane sugar

Corn Sweetener

Raw sugar

Syrup

Honey

Fruit juice concentrates

1 gram of sugar = 4 calories

If a label says 15 grams of sugar; that equals 60 calories of sugar.

According to the American Heart Association:

Women should have no more than 100 calories of added sugar (6tsp) of sugar per day.

Men should have no more than 150 calories of added sugar (9tsp) per day.
